The Better Chip: Spinach & Kale

Kale is somewhat of a superstar in the culinary world lately. I probably eat kale at least two times a week, whether intentionally or not. I love the flavor and how nutrient packed and filling it is. Pair kale with quinoa and I swear it feels like you've eaten an entire Thanksgiving turkey - without all of the gnarly calories.

When I had the chance to check out the new Kale and Spinach corn chips from The Better Chip, I was a little skeptical at first. I mean, kale in chip form? It was kind of a big eye, little eye moment for me, but I kept an open mind since I love the Jalapeño chips from The Better Chip

I love me some corn chips, so much so that you can almost always find a bag of Xochitl chips in my kitchen at any given time. I didn't know what to expect of the Spinach and Kale chips so I just stared at them for a good week before deciding to bring them along to a beach trip with me. I figured, hey these are probably pretty good for you what with their assertive green-ness and what not, right? Instead of chowing down on fries at the beach, I could just have these REALLY green chips instead. ^_^

I plopped down on the beach with the wine we managed to sneak in (wink, wink) and decided now was as good as time as any to tear into the bag of green chips.

I was expecting an overtly kale flavor, but in actuality the flavor was more of a subtle broccoli. You're probably like, ew that sounds gross, but it wasn't at all. It was a very mild green flavor that reminded me of broccoli. I snacked on them for a while, feeling rather healthy and proud of myself.

I'd like to try them with a bean salsa or cheese dip next time. I feel like they could be great with an artichoke dip or something really flavorful, but even plain, these green chips are still pretty yummy and it's good to know they are gluten-free and non-GMO.

Would you try them?
