Lucy's Gluten-Free Cookies

My scale has been broken for quite some time. When I finally got a new one I realized that I have "mysteriously" gained weight. I think it has something to do with all of the wine I drink, so I’ve decided to drink less wine and eat cookies instead.

Thank goodness for me the wonderful people at Lucy’s sent me some of their yummy treats to sample. With flavors like Chocolate, Maple Bliss & Ginger Snap, I knew I would be in good hands. For those who may not be aware, I love me some cookies. I’m not quite on the level of Cookie Monster, but I’m pretty close.  I’m particularly fond of soft-baked cookies, but I can get down with a crunchy cookie if it has good flavor (and I have a glass of milk to go with it).

Lucy’s cookies are of the crunchy variety, but they have a lot going for them. Not only do the cookies taste good, they are gluten-free, vegan, peanut/tree nut free, and kosher, which is great when you have a multiple allergy household and you’re looking for a treat the whole family can enjoy.

Lucy's Ginger Snap

Of the three flavors I tried, Ginger Snap is my favorite. This is not a cookie for the faint of heart. The ginger flavor is assertive, with a spicy kick followed by a subtle sweetness from the molasses. I could see these cookies being a fantastic base for a cheesecake or as a part of a crumble.

The Maple Bliss cookies are also really good, and taste just like maple syrup. For the breakfast lovers out there, this is your cookie.

Lucy's Chocolate Cookies

My least favorite, surprisingly enough, were the Chocolate. I was in hardcore PMS-mode when I ate these so my taste buds were at the ready for some chocolate, but the flavor wasn’t what I expected. It was more of an earthy taste that I can’t pinpoint to a particular ingredient since all three flavors use the same flour base. Don’t get me wrong, the chocolate is not bad, it just wasn’t my favorite.

I have to hand it to Lucy’s, their cookies don’t contain any of the ingredients that normally make cookies taste good, but they have successfully found the secret mojo to make an allergy friendly range of cookies that the whole family can enjoy.

The best part about Lucy's cookies? They fill the package up completely. There's always one or two extra cookies crammed into the side, which helps keeps everything packed tightly and makes me feel like I've gotten bonus treats.
