Izzi B's Cupcakes

Lately I've been feeling like my body is not the healthiest it could be.  I do go to the gym pretty regularly, but I eat decadent foods, love sweets and have a fondness for wine that *could* be scaled back a bit.  I thought about doing a detox, but the thought of deprivation is really not appealing to me.  I do like the concept of the Blue Print Cleansebecause they also offer food on one of their programs, but overall I think just eating really fresh foods for a week or two, while cutting back on fatty meats, sweets and *gasp* wine, will have me feeling healthy again.  I think I'll dedicate a week on Misterbelly to raw/vegan recipes just in case anyone out there is considering using a raw/vegan diet as a form of a cleanse as well.

Going vegan or raw for a short while doesn't mean you have to cut out sweets altogether either.  I found some amazing raw recipes for truffles and even cakes, that looked amazing.  The hunt is on for cacao paste!  (I'm thinking Whole Foods or Mrs. Green's might have it). If you're like me though, you'll want a few options that don't require a lot of time in the kitchen, namely something you can just grab at the store and keep on hand for those late-night sugar cravings.

I discovered some delightfully colored vegan cupcakes by Izzi B's, that also happened to be gluten-free (and casein/nut/dairy/egg free).  Actually, the list of allergens these cupcakes did not contain had me wondering what exactly they could be made of.  They came in cute, bite size cupcakes, and I'm a sucker for any sweet in petite form, so I picked them up to give them a try.

They were frozen when I picked them up, so I left them on the counter to defrost for a short while.  They smelled good and looked delicious.  When I tried a piece, I wasn't sure what to expect, but the flavor was really nice, maybe slightly chalky, but considering how allergen-free they are, I could forgive that.  The frosting was nice with the cupcake and nothing was overly sweet.  I did enjoy the vanilla cupcakes a bit more than the chocolate version, but that was really a personal preference more than a flavor issue. The Izzi B's cupcakes have me really excited about trying a vegan diet and I'll definitely have these on hand in my freezer once I kick off my cleanse/detox!
