I first discovered Mariposa Baking during a trip to California.  I have somewhat of an obsession of visiting grocery stores when I'm traveling to see what they are like.  Don't ask me why, but for me a good grocery store is a thing of beauty and California always impresses me with their rows upon rows of fresh produce, and of course the fact that you can buy liquor and wine at any grocery store!

It was at a Whole Foods in San Francisco that I discovered Mariposa's products.  I had read about them online and was so excited to try them that I bought their biscotti and sinful brownies as soon as I saw them.  Their biscotti is actually quite good and is available in a variety of artisan flavors like ginger spice and cinnamon toast.  Their browniesare amazing and rank pretty highly in my book of favorite gluten-free brownies.

don't mind the missing piece of topping!

What I discovered recently, was that they have a whole variety of other products available now including coffee cake, cinnamon rolls and crostini, all of which I have the pleasure of trying (more posts to come!).  Their coffee cake grabbed me from the start, I mean first of all it's coffee cake and secondly it's SOUR CREAM coffee cake, which sounds pretty darn awesome.

small, but tasty!

I received the coffee cake in the mail and the first thing that popped into mind when I saw it was "Wow, this is a lot smaller than it looks online!" Well you know they say good things come in small packages, and there is no exception here.  It packs a ton of flavor into each bite, even coming in at a petite 4.5 inches in diameter.  The cake itself is incredibly moist, so much so that the topping came off a little when I took it out of the package.  Oops! The flavor reminds me very much of coffee cake, full of yummy streusel goodness.  The sour cream didn't really come through for me, but it's presence was definitely felt in that moist texture! The only thing I wish I had with my piece of cake was a hot cup of coffee...but that's just an excuse for me to have another piece this weekend!
