I had this grandiose plan to make S'mores the other day, after finding the biggest marshmallows I have ever seen in my life, but it didn't quite work out for me. I bought Kinnikinnick graham crackers (which I love), I had a bag of ginormous Campfire marshmallows and I even got a Dagoba chocolate bar, but my experiment was a failure. The crackers got soft, and the chocolate wasn't the right kind.
I thought about photographing my attempt, but it was so messy, and unappetizing that I couldn't bring myself to do it. So instead of sharing a S'mores recipe, I've decided to dedicate this post to the REALLY HUGE Campfire marshmallows! Besides the fact that these marshmallows are colossal, they are also labeled gluten free right on the front of the package in bold print. I did a double take at the store A.) because of the novelty and B.) after I saw the gluten free label. I'm not a big marshmallow eater, but I had to buy them just because they were gluten free.
I kept them in the cabinet for over a week before deciding I would attempt S'mores. I couldn't bring myself to eat one right away because they were just so...intimidating. When I finally opened the bag, I tasted one and they taste just like regular marshmallows, but after eating one, that was it for me. They are like the protein of marshmallows, really filling. I haven't tried roasting them yet, but I may try that this weekend and see how it turns out. I give Campfire a big thumbs up for reinventing the marshmallow (and labeling them gluten free). Kids will LOVE these and they really would make for the perfect S'more, but I'm still working on finding the right graham crackers to stand up to the challenge!
