I'm the first to admit, chocolate and pumpkin seeds seem like an unlikely combo. I picked up a box of Gerb's Chocolate Covered Pumpkin Seeds at Whole Foods one day and examined it like it was some strange artifact from a forgotten time. The concept just seemed so unusual, pumpkin seeds and chocolate? I try to keep healthy snacks at my desk whenever possible and pumpkin seeds covered in chocolate qualify as healthy in my book, so I bought them.
When I finally had a chance to try them, I have to say, I wasn't a fan. The combo was odd to me, and it felt like something was missing. Maybe some saltiness or a different type of chocolate, I don't know. As I kept snacking on them, pondering what would make them better, they grew on me. The chocolate is good, although not very rich (for me anyway). I've been spoiled by one too many delicious Christopher Norman chocolate-covered cherries (but that's another post). The clusters are a pretty fair size, so one or two will tide you over and get you through those last crucial hours before 6 PM, when you need a sugar rush and all you can think about is shutting off your computer and going home. Plus, pumpkin seeds have all sort of great health benefits and are packed with vitamins, so you don't need to feel guilty about indulging.
