Restaurant Review: Pizza Fusion

I have something of a pizza obsession.  I am a native New Yorker and pride myself on having tried some of the best pizza in this country, which is why it was such a hard blow to give it all up and go gluten free.  The good thing about living in New York is that several restaurants have stepped up to provide gluten free versions of all the usual suspects, including pizza.  You have Risotteria, Pala and Mozarelli's which I can (and will) go on about eventually.

This week it's Pizza Fusion, which isn't actually located in NYC.  The closest one is in Ridgewood, New Jersey, which is just outside of Paramus for those who care.  It's a short jaunt from the city and totally worth it in my opinion.

While pricier than some of the other gluten free pizza places nearby, the pizza itself is actually some of the tastiest.  It's thin crust, and can be topped with a plethora of yummy things like roasted garlic, roasted eggplant, large pieces of pepperoni...the list goes on and on.  What I like best is that you can choose from mozarella cheese or SOY cheese, which is great for those who are lactose intolerant.  I've tried the soy version before, but I prefer the mozarella cheese (thank goodness for Lactaid pills).

I first tried Pizza Fusion in San Diego and while I liked it, I wasn't exactly floored.  I don't know if the Jersey location does it better because they know a little something about making a good pizza (considering the proximity to NYC) or if I was just super hungry when I ate it (which is true), but I'm happy that there is another viable pizza option for the gluten free folk and I'll definitely go back.
