I am convinced that my local health food store Basic Foods is the mecca for gluten free products. While wandering through the frozen section the other day I found some really interesting products, including frozen cookie dough from French Meadow Bakery, which I had never seen before anywhere else. I picked up a box out of curiosity and because I knew they would come in handy for a midnight snack.
Later that night I decided to give them a try. I opened the box to find them already pre-formed into cookie shapes. You can't get any easier than that! You just line them up on a cookie sheet and pop them into the oven for 12 minutes. As they were baking I took the time to check out the nutrition facts and ONE cookie contains 190 calories! The "flour" base is Potato Flour, which ended up giving the cookies a very strange flavor. They weren't unpleasant, but they did have a strange taste and they were really dry. At 200 cals a pop and $7.99 a box, I couldn't justify the strange taste to myself. I probably wouldn't buy another box again, but they are worth trying once.
